Metro Training Center Facility Public Hearing
The comment period has ended. The public comment period began at 9 am on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and ended at 9 am on Monday, September 28, 2026. Public feedback will be provided to Metro’s Board of Directors in Fall/Winter 2026 as part of the final decision-making process.
The project will be located at 3636 Pennsy Drive in Landover, Maryland. The selected concept proposes demolition of the entire existing 350,000 sq ft unused warehouse facility and construction of a new, two-story structure of approximately 380,000 sq ft. The new facility will include the following core design elements:
- Site work to enhance circulation, utility corridors, stormwater systems and building placement to meet engineering best practices and Prince George’s County site development requirements
- A replica Metro Rail station and tunnel complete with railcars
- Two (2) interior mock bus bays to accommodate diesel, electric, hybrid and gas bus technologies
- An auditorium with approximately 1,000 seats for group training, events and assemblies
- Administrative offices
- Flexible training classrooms and technical laboratory spaces
- Modern learning spaces designed for hands-on practicum, classroom, and virtual learning environments
- A dedicated Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) Training Academy with secure and separate access
Following the public comment period, all public comments will be provided to Metro's Board of Directors for final review and inclusion into Metro's Mass Transit Plan.
If the project moves forward, the Prince George’s County Planning Department will be responsible for evaluating the scope and impact on public facilities, including the evaluation of the project's traffic impacts, and stormwater design.
