Summer 2024 Red Line Construction

Project Dates:

  • June 1 - 27, 2024 - Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring, and Takoma stations closed
  • June 1 - August 31, 2024 - Takoma reopened. Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, and Silver Spring stations closed

Purpose: Metro made safety repairs and performed essential maintenance at five Red Line stations in coordination with the construction of a new mezzanine at the Silver Spring Station for the future Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Purple Line.

The construction required the closure of the Silver Spring Station for several months. Metro took advantage of the closure to complete the updates and minimize the impact on customers.
