Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Experience: Level D
  • Two years as a garage mechanic or related experience

The following vocational/technical training can be substituted for two years of full-time work experience at all levels:

  • Three years high school mechanical training
  • Two years tech school mechanical training; OR, two years college mechanical training

And any of the following:

  • One current ASE certification in one field: transit bus, automotive, medium/heavy truck or school bus
  • Military Occupational Skills Course certifications in a related field
  • Associate's degree in Automotive Technology
  • Automotive manufacturer-specific certifications
  • Two years of vocational training in transit bus, automotive, medium/heavy truck or school bus maintenance from an accredited school recognized by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges
