Construction crews complete Phase I, move to second platform at Reagan National Airport Station on Sept. 26

Platform reconstruction at Reagan National Airport, which began on August 7, is well underway and making great progress. The station is one of few in the Metrorail system with three tracks for train movement, allowing Metro to maintain regular service during platform reconstruction with one track taken out of service at a time. 

On Saturday, September 26 construction will move to the second location, the platform closest to the parking garage, which is a significant milestone in the overall progress of the station’s reconstruction. 

Over the past seven weeks, construction crews demolished and reconstructed the platform closest to the airport.  This includes installation of 72 pieces of granite along the platform edge, pouring a new topping slab (the layer of concrete below the tiles), and installing new slip-resistant tiles. This week, teams are finishing tile installation and grouting, edge light testing and concrete repairs on the columns of the canopy, marking the end of Phase I of platform reconstruction at this station.
