Na-update: 5/16/2026
No smoking
It is unlawful smoke in the Metro system. Customers can be cited by Metro Transit Police for violations.
No eating and drinking
It is unlawful to eat or drink in the Metro system. Customers can be cited by Metro Transit Police for violations.
Service animals and pets
Service animals that assist people with disabilities are the only animals permitted to ride unconfined on Metro Rail and Metro Bus.
Pets must be in a secure container to ride.
Bikes
Bikes are welcome on Metro during all hours. However, we encourage bicyclists to be considerate of other customers and ensure you aren't blocking someone else's access to a vehicle or a seat.
Riding escalators
Stand on the right, walk on the left.
If you want to ride the escalator, that's fine - just keep to the right side and let others climb stairs on the left.
Using elevators
Anyone can use an elevator, but give priority to people who need to use it for mobility reasons, or because they have a stroller or bicycle or other item that can't be taken on escalators.
Getting on and off the train
Don't try to block or force train doors open. They don't reopen like elevator doors.
Let passengers get off the train before you board. When you get on, move away from the doors so others can board behind you.
Using headphones
Use headphones with all audio and video devices.
