In order to accommodate the tens of thousands of fans expected to turn out for the Nationals’ World Series Championship Parade in Downtown DC, Metro in partnership with Xfinity today announced Metrorail will run extra trains on Saturday providing good service on all lines. All previously scheduled track work on Saturday has been canceled, except overnight work starting at 10 p.m.

Rail stations will open at 7 a.m. operating regular Saturday service on all lines, ramping up to rush-hour levels between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. In Downtown DC, trains will arrive every 3-4 minutes, with departures from end-of-line stations every 6-12 minutes.

Planned work between McPherson Sq and Federal Center SW will be rescheduled.

Metro will have additional trains on standby to accommodate expected ridership. Additional Metro Transit Police officers, rail and bus supervisors, and support staff will be on hand to assist fans.

On Saturday, we want our streets packed with fans and champions, not cars," said D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. "With Metro running rush-hour service all day on Saturday, there are no excuses for trying to drive downtown. We're grateful that Xfinity is stepping up to help us make the celebration convenient, safe, and fun for the whole region."

During this historic World Series run, Metro and our employees went to bat for Nationals fans, carrying thousands of fans to the ballpark and watch parties from the Wild Card game to the World Series and now the victory parade,” said Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Wiedefeld. “The Nats finished the fight and now, together with Xfinity, we look forward to welcoming tens of thousands of fans aboard Metro to celebrate on Saturday. Xfinity stepped up to sponsor enhanced rail service, and we extend our thanks to them.”

Congratulations to the 2019 World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals,” said Mary McLaughlin, senior vice president of Comcast’s Beltway Region. “We are proud to partner with Metro and Mayor Bowser to ensure our fellow Nats fans can conveniently use Metro to get to and from Saturday’s parade by spending less time waiting and more time celebrating!”

Stations closest to the parade route (Federal Triangle, Archives, Judiciary Square) can be expected to be very crowded, and for your safety, trains may bypass stations during crowding conditions. Fans are encouraged to consider using Metro Center, Gallery Place, or Union Station as alternates. All three alternate stations are a short (less than 10 min) walk from the parade route.

In addition Metro Transit Police may designate selected station entrances as "entry only" or "exit only.” Selected escalators may be turned off where crowding conditions warrant.

To view the parade from the south side of the route, exit at Smithsonian, L’Enfant Plaza, or Federal Center SW, and then walk north across the National Mall.

IMPORTANT TRAVEL TIPS:

  • The District of Columbia encourages everyone attending the parade to text “NATS” to 888-777 to receive text alerts on safety, transit, and weather updates. Metro service information will be included.
  • Avoid transferring between lines if possible. There is a Metro station near the parade on each of Metro’s six rail lines.
  • Travel light. Expect trains to be crowded before and after the parade. Avoid carrying bulky items, such as coolers.
  • Buy/load your SmarTrip card in advance. Make sure you have enough fare on the card for your entire round trip, as there may be long lines for vending machines at Downtown stations. Remember, each rider (age 5 and up) needs his or her own SmarTrip card to enter and exit Metro. Kids under 5 ride free.
  • At the end of the celebration, consider taking some time to enjoy Downtown DC while waiting for the crowds to subside. Metrorail is open until 1 a.m. for those who want to make an evening of it.

Parking is free on the weekend at all Metro parking facilities; however some lots and garages, particularly at end-of-line stations may reach capacity early in the day.
