Roadway construction, station improvements to impact customers at Pentagon Transit Center and Pentagon Metrorail Station over multiple weekends

Metro is advising customers of road construction at the Pentagon that will close the Pentagon Transit Center during the weekends of April 6-7, and April 20-21. Metrobus service will be relocated to Pentagon City Station during both weekends.

Metrorail service will be unaffected. Blue and Yellow line trains will continue to provide normal service to Pentagon Station. However, rail customers that normally make bus connections at the Pentagon will need to transfer to buses at Pentagon City.

Impacted routes include:

Metrobus routes 7A, 10A, 16A, 16C, 16E, 22A and DASH Route 35

View the Pentagon Temporary Detour Advisory for detour information and temporary bus stop locations.

In addition, Metro will begin construction on April 1, to replace the three entrance escalators at the north entrance to the Pentagon Metrorail Station. The escalators will be replaced one at a time and are expected to be completed next year. During construction, the remaining two escalators will be operational with one going up and one going down.

During each escalator replacement, a crane and heavy equipment are required to remove the old escalator’s parts and install the new escalator. This can only be done safely by closing the affected entrance and closing the upper-level bus loop at the Pentagon Transit Center to allow equipment to be brought in.

This work will be done on the weekends of April 20-21 and April 27-28, closing the north entrance to Pentagon Station. Customers may use the elevator or the south entrance on the opposite side to access Blue and Yellow line train service at the station. Due to the equipment needs, all bus service the weekend of April 27-28 will be relocated from the upper level to the lower level of the Pentagon Transit Center. Please follow posted signage to locate your bus stop.

The old escalators are being replaced with brand-new more durable and reliable escalators as part of Metro's ongoing Escalator Replacement Project to replace 139 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028.
