Metrobus detours for Cherry Blossom Parade and events, late night work on Blue, Orange, Silver lines Saturday

Metro is advising customers of temporary detours and emergency track work that will affect rail and bus customers on Saturday, April 13.

During the day, several major roads will be closed through downtown DC for the 2024 Cherry Blossom Parade and Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival. Temporary detours will be in effect on 12 routes between 3 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In addition, late-night emergency track work will impact customers on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. Beginning at 10 p.m., trains will single track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory with longer wait times – every 22 minutes - between trains on these lines. All Blue Line trains will also operate between Franconia-Springfield and Federal Center SW only. Work crews will need to remove about 50 feet of third rail, replacing it with two smaller segments and jumper cables that bridge the gap between the sections of third rail that power the trains.

Normal service will resume at 7 a.m. when stations open on Sunday.
