Weekend service adjustments March 3-5 for scheduled maintenance

Advisory Effective: 2/21/17 - 2/26/17

Metro will perform maintenance work over the weekend of March 3-5 to keep trains operating safely and reliably.

Highlights

  • Green Line trains operate at regular weekend intervals.
  • Red Line trains operate every 10-15 minutes. Buses replace trains between Forest Glen & Silver Spring.
  • Blue Line trains operate every 15-24 minutes due to SafeTrack Surge #13. Buses replace trains between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW.
  • Yellow Line trains operate every 15-24 minutes due to SafeTrack Surge #13.
  • Orange Line trains operate every 15-24 minutes. Buses replace trains between Smithsonian & Federal Center SW.
  • Silver Line trains operate every 24 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only.

Red Line Red Line
Free shuttle buses replace trains between Forest Glen and Silver Spring

On Saturday and Sunday, Red Line trains will operate:

  • Every 15 minutes between Forest Glen & Glenmont.
  • Every 10 minutes between Shady Grove & Silver Spring.
  • Free shuttle buses replace train service between Forest Glen and Silver Spring. Please add 10 minutes of travel time through this zone.
  • Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. Riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.
Work performed: Track maintenance, fastener & tie renewal and joint elimination.

Orange Line Orange Line
Free shuttle buses replace trains between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW

On Saturday and Sunday, Orange Line trains will operate:

  • Every 24 minutes between Vienna & Smithsonian.
  • Every 15 minutes between Federal Center SW & New Carrollton.
  • Free shuttle buses replace train service between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW with an intermediate stop at L'Enfant Plaza. Please add 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
  • L'Enfant Plaza lower level platforms will be closed.
  • Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. Riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.
Work performed: Ceiling tile replacement, track maintenance, fastener & stud renewal and communication cable installation.

Silver Line Silver Line
Trains every 24 minutes

  • Silver Line trains will operate every 24 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.

SafeTrack Surge #13 - Continuous single tracking between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street | March 4 through April 9
Free shuttle buses replace trains between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW

Blue Line trains will operate:
  • Every 24 minutes between Franconia-Springfield & Smithsonian.
  • Every 15 minutes between Federal Center SW & Largo Town Center.
  • Free shuttle buses replace train service between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW with an intermediate stop at L'Enfant Plaza. Please add 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
  • L'Enfant Plaza lower level platforms will be closed
  • Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.

Yellow Line Yellow Line
SafeTrack Surge #13 - Continuous single tracking between Braddock Road and Huntington | March 4 through April 9

Yellow Line trains will operate every 24 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.

  • Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. Trip Planner is updated to reflect weekend rebuilding schedules on Fridays; please check on Friday afternoon or later.
