Metrobus Changes Begin Sunday, June 25, 2023

Advisory Effective: 6/25/23 - 9/1/23


Effective Sunday, June 25, 2023, Metro will improve service on 68 bus routes across the National Capital Region as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 budget process. The service improvements expand the reach of Metro's Frequent Service Network, first launched in fall 2021, to more customers and routes. These investments increase ridership, expand access, and advance equity region wide. 

Highlights include: 
• In the District of Columbia, improving Route B2 midday, evening, and weekend frequency to every 12 minutes or better for most of the day to provide better connections between Northeast and Southeast DC; 

• In Maryland, adding service to new destinations along the Landover Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway corridors by extending Route A12 and beginning service on new Route L12, including new service to Downtown Largo and New Carrollton stations and Woodmore Towne Centre, every 20 minutes for most of the day; and, 

• In Virginia, extending service along Columbia Pike from Skyline City to National Landing on new Route 16M, which combines routes 16G and 16H, every 12 minutes for most of the day. 

 Additionally, Metro will make schedule and other changes to improve service for customers on the following routes: 
• DC: 31, 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 52, 54, 59, 80, 90, A2, A4, B2, D6, D8, G2, H2, H4, H8, M6, P6, V2, V4, V7, W4, W5, X2, X3

• Maryland: 83, 86, A12, C2, C4, C8, C21, C22, C27, F4, F6, F8, G14, K6, L8, Q1, Q2, Q4, Q5, Q6, R4, T2, Y2, Y7, Y8, Z2, Z6, Z7, Z8

• Virginia: 3F, 3Y, 10A, 10B, 11Y, 16G, 16H, 16Y, 38B, REX 

 Other changes: 
 District of Columbia 

80 North Capitol Street
• Service will extend to George Washington University Hospital (Foggy Bottom) during late night and early morning hours when Metrorail is closed, every day of the week. 

• When buses serve George Washington University Hospital, stops along K Street and 15th Street NW will not be served.

B2 Bladensburg Road-Anacostia 
• The route will join Metro’s 12-Minute Frequent Service Network. Service frequency will improve to every 12 minutes or better between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day of the week. 

D8 Hospital Center 

• At Washington Hospital Center, buses will serve DC VA Medical Center before serving MedStar Washington Hospital Center. 

H2, H4 Crosstown
• At Washington Hospital Center, buses will serve DC VA Medical Center before serving MedStar Washington Hospital Center. 

X2 Benning Road-H Street
• Service will extend to George Washington University Hospital (Foggy Bottom) during late night and early morning hours when Metrorail is closed, every day of the week.

• When buses serve George Washington University Hospital, customers traveling to Lafayette Square in the direction of Foggy Bottom should exit the bus at the stop along westbound I (Eye) Street & 15th Street (stop ID 1001185). 

Maryland
86 College Park
• At Hyattsville Crossing Station, northbound buses to Calverton will serve Bay D (stop ID 3003209) and southbound buses to Rhode Island Avenue Station will serve Bay G (stop ID 3002570). Southbound buses will no longer serve the stop on Belcrest Road at East-West Highway. 

A12 Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway
• Service will split into two routes, with new service to Downtown Largo and New Carrollton stations, and Woodmore Towne Centre:

New Route A12 will operate between Addison Road and New Carrollton stations via Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway, Greenleaf Road, Henson Avenue, Barlowe Road, Brightseat Road, Glenarden Parkway, Hayes Street, Johnson Avenue, and Ardwick-  Ardmore Road. The route will also serve Capitol Heights Station on Sundays. 

L12 Landover Road
New Route L12 will operate between Downtown Largo Station and Capital Plaza via Lottsford Road, Woodmore Towne Centre (Lockhart Boulevard), Landover Road, Greenleaf Road, Henson Avenue, Barlowe Road, Fire House Road, Hawthorn Street, Pinebrook Avenue, Landover Station, Hospital Drive, and Annapolis Road. 

• Both routes will be part of Metro’s 20-Minute Frequent Service Network. Service will operate every 20 minutes or better between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day of the week, with less frequent service between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. and between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
• Customers who need to transfer between routes A12 and L12 may do so at stops served by both routes along Greenleaf Road, Henson Avenue, and Barlowe Road. 

C2, C4 Greenbelt-Twinbrook
• Additional trips will be added to reduce crowding. 

• The Route C2 University of Maryland campus long-term detour will be reflected in the timetable.

• At Hyattsville Crossing Station, Route C4 buses will serve Bay A (stop ID 3002683). 

C21, C22 Central Avenue 
• All Route C21 and C22 trips will extend to Collington Center (Trade Zone Avenue). 

C27 Central Avenue Supplemental
• Route C27 supplemental service between Addison Road Station and Pointer Ridge, including service to Six Flags, will operate Saturday, May 27 through Monday, September 4, 2023. 

F4 New Carrollton-Silver Spring 

• At Hyattsville Crossing Station, eastbound buses to New Carrollton will serve Bay G (stop ID 3002570) and westbound buses to Silver Spring will serve Bay D (stop ID 3003209). 

F6 New Carrollton-Fort Totten 
• At Hyattsville Crossing Station, eastbound buses to New Carrollton will serve Bay C (stop ID 3003215) and westbound buses to Fort Totten will serve Bay G (stop ID 3002570). 

F8 Langley Park-Cheverly 
• At Hyattsville Crossing Station, northbound buses to Takoma Langley Crossroads Transit Center will serve Bay C (stop ID 3003215) and southbound buses to Cheverly will serve Bay H (stop ID 3004204). Southbound buses will no longer serve the stop on Belcrest Road at East-West Highway. 

G14 Greenbelt Road-Good Luck Road
• On weekdays, one additional school trip will be added to reduce crowding.

K6 New Hampshire Avenue-Maryland
• In White Oak, buses will serve stops along southbound Stewart Lane and westbound Lockwood Drive. Buses will no longer serve the stop in the White Oak Shopping Center parking lot adjacent to the former Sears. 

L8 Connecticut Avenue-Maryland
• On weekdays, one additional trip will be added to reduce crowding. 

Q1, Q5 Veirs Mill Road 
• Route Q1 trips will be renamed Q2 trips and Route Q5 trips will be renamed Q6 trips. Former Q1 and Q5 trips will continue to bypass Montgomery Community College campus (bus signs will indicate which Q2 and Q6 trips serve the college). 

R4 Queens Chapel Road
• At Hyattsville Crossing Station, northbound buses to Highview will serve Bay C (stop ID 3003215) and southbound buses to Brookland will serve Bay H (stop ID 3004204). Southbound buses will no longer serve the stop on Belcrest Road at East-West Highway.

T2 River Road 
• On weekdays, two additional trips from Friendship Heights Station and one additional trip from Rockville Station will be added in the evening to match the weekend hours of service provided by Ride On.

Z8 Silver Spring-Fairland 
• On weekdays, one additional trip will be added to reduce crowding. 

Virginia 
 3F, 3Y Langston Boulevard-McPherson Square
• Service via Theodore Roosevelt Bridge (I-66) will be restored. Buses will operate via Constitution Avenue, 18th, and 19th streets NW instead of E Street NW. 

10A Huntington-Pentagon 
• A new Saturday schedule will coordinate with Route 10B to improve service for customers who can use either route between Old Town Alexandria, Braddock Road Station, and Mt. Vernon Avenue. 

10B Hunting Point-Ballston
• A new Saturday schedule will coordinate with Route 10A to improve service for customers who can use either route between Old Town Alexandria, Braddock Road Station, and Mt. Vernon Avenue. 

11Y Mt. Vernon Express (DC3 Yellow Line Shuttle) 
• Route 11Y service will operate on a new timetable:
  • Northbound buses to Potomac Park will depart Mt. Vernon (Grist Mill Woods Way) every 24 minutes between 5:49 and 8:13 a.m. 
  • Southbound buses to Mt. Vernon will depart Potomac Park every 24 minutes between 4 and 6:30 p.m. 
• The express fare will be charged.

16G, 16H Columbia Pike-Pentagon City
• Routes 16G and 16H will combine into new Route 16M Columbia Pike-National Landing, operating between Skyline City and National Landing (Crystal City) via Columbia Pike and Pentagon City.
• Route 16M will join Metro’s 12-Minute Frequent Service Network. Service frequency will be every 12 minutes or better between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day of the week
• Route 16G stops in Arlington Mill will continue to be served by Arlington Transit (ART). 

16Y Columbia Pike-Farragut Square
• Service via the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge (I-66) will be restored. Buses will operate via Constitution Avenue, 18th, and 19th streets NW instead of E Street NW. 

REX Richmond Highway Express
• Service at Fort Belvoir will be adjusted to reflect the operating hours of the Post Exchange and Commissary:
  • Northbound buses to King Street-Old Town Station will depart from the Post Exchange and Commissary between 9:15 a.m. and 7:55 p.m. on weekdays, between 9:15 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. on Saturdays, and between 10:34 a.m. and 5:55 p.m. on Sundays. 
  • Southbound buses to the Post Exchange and Commissary (Fort Belvoir) will depart from King Street-Old Town Station between 8 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. on weekdays, between 8:20 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. on Saturdays, and between 9:20 a.m. and 4:40 p.m. on Sundays. 
• Buses serving the Post Exchange and Commissary will operate via Pence Gate at Fort Belvoir.
