L'Enfant Plaza Escalator Replacement
Advisory Effective: 5/17/24 - 8/31/26
On May 31, 2024, Metro will continue a major capital project replacing the entrance escalators located at L’Enfant Plaza Station. The project will replace the three escalators at Entrance B (6 St) from late May 2024 to approximately June 2025 and the three escalators at Entrance C (9 St, L’Enfant Plaza) from approximately June 2025 to August 2026. The escalators will be replaced with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable.
Metro’s contractor KONE is installing the escalators as part of an ongoing project to replace 139 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028, to ensure the regional infrastructure remains in a state of good repair.
The three entrance escalators at Entrance A (7 St, Maryland Ave) were replaced and reopened to customers in January 2023.
How will this work affect my trip?
During construction, one escalator will be closed at a time. All entrances and the elevator will remain open.
How long will the project take?
The replacement of the three entrance escalators at Entrance B (6 St) is expected to take approximately 13 months. The replacement of the three entrance escalators at Entrance C (9 St, L’Enfant Plaza) is anticipated to take approximately 14 months.
