G9 MetroExtra Increased Service for Red Line Shutdown, July 21-Sept 3

Beginning Saturday, July 21 for 45-days, G9 MetroExtra will operate expanded service during all hours the Metrorail system is open, seven days a week between Rhode Island Ave Metrorail station and Franklin Square to support the Red Line shutdown for a major capital improvement project that will close Rhode Island Ave and Brookland Metrorail stations.

G9 service to Franklin Square will board at 8th Place & Rhode Island Ave NE (accessible from the station via pedestrian walkway). Regular Metrobus fares (cash or SmarTrip) apply.

Customers may transfer to the Yellow/Green Line at Shaw-Howard University or the Blue/Orange/Silver Lines at McPherson Square Metrorail stations to continue their trip. Please refer to the G9 MetroExtra timetable for arrival times.

Free local shuttle service is also available between Fort Totten, Brookland, Rhode Island Ave and NoMa-Gallaudet stations. The extended G9 service offers another travel alternative for customers impacted by the shutdown.
