Farragut North Escalator Replacement
Advisory Effective: 1/9/23 - 5/1/24
On January 9, 2023, Metro began a major capital project replacing six entrance escalators at Farragut North at the L Street and K Street entrances. The project will replace the escalators with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable.
Metro’s contractor KONE will install the escalators as part of an ongoing project to replace 130 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028, helping to ensure the regional infrastructure remains in a state of good repair.
How will this work affect my trip?
Construction will continue at the L Street entrance through October 9, 2023. Following construction at the L Street entrance, three escalators will be replaced at the K Street entrance.
Beginning October 9, 2023, the K Street entrance will be closed for approximately six months through spring 2024 while three escalators are replaced. While the K Street entrance is closed, the elevator located at K Street and both entrances at L Street will remain open.
How long will the project take?
The replacement of all six escalators is expected to be completed in April 2024.
