Residual construction and parking impacts at Platform Improvement Project stations

Published: Thursday, August 27, 2020

At the four Orange Line stations west of Ballston-MU – Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church – returning customers may notice ongoing construction activity and parking impacts after the stations reopen. Because Metro is committed to restoring service on the first day it is safe for customers, some project activity and staging may not be fully completed on opening day.

At each of the stations, crews have used the parking lots to stage equipment since March and will continue to do so as final construction activities and punch list work, including installation of digital advertising screens, continues through the fall. Here’s what customers can expect at each station:

Vienna

  • Station is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 8.
  • Surface Parking Lot 1 capacity will remain limited through December. The lot will reopen at 50% capacity in the beginning of October. The rest of the lot will open at full capacity in the beginning of December.
  • The other parking lot and the two parking garages remain open.
  • Regular parking rates will be charged beginning Tuesday, September 8.

Dunn Loring

  • Station is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 8.
  • Kiss & Ride lot will reopen on September 8.
  • Part of the sidewalk will remain partially closed until mid-October, but an accessible pedestrian path will be maintained at all times.
  • Regular parking rates will be charged beginning Tuesday, September 8.

West Falls Church

  • Station reopened on Sunday, August 16.
  • Surface parking lot capacity will remain limited through December. The surface lot closest to the station will reopen at 50% capacity on September 8. This lot will return to full capacity in mid-October. The second parking lot will reopen in early December.
  • Regular parking rates will be charged beginning Tuesday, September 8.
  • The north bus loop will reopen in mid-October.
  • Buses in the south bus loop will remain in their current configuration.

East Falls Church
