For the final post in our #ThrowbackThursday series, we're taking a closer look at East Falls Church Station, which will reopen ahead of schedule this Sunday, following last Sunday's reopening of West Falls Church.

The only one of this year's stations located in Arlington County, East Falls Church is situated at the intersection of I-66 and Lee Highway. Like the other three stations, it features an outdoor island-style platform with peaked roof designs.

This year's stations - Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church - opened together on June 7, 1986. This represented a 9-mile extension to the Orange Line, which made its debut only eight years prior in 1978. The addition of these four stations increased the total number of stations to 61 and miles of track to 69.9 (today there are 91 stations and 117 miles of track).
