Installation underway for new station features

Published: Thursday, July 29, 2021

With platform reconstruction work nearly completed for this summer’s Platform Improvement Project, work has progressed with installing new station features. These features will modernize the stations while improving the customers experience, safety, communications, and convenience for Metro riders. Throughout the stations, crews are installing LED lighting, larger Passenger Information Displays (PIDs), new Public Address (PA) speakers, and more customer experience improvements. In the next few weeks, the stations will receive power to test new features and platform operations.

Here is an update for installation underway for the new station features:

Greenbelt

Crews have installed pylons and shelter frames across the platform. After completing the positioning of skylight framing, crews have placed canopy glass panels. For the safety of our customers, brighter, energy efficient lighting improvements are underway, including LED handrails, new platform edge lights and globe lights in the canopy. In the upcoming weeks, more features will be installed at the station, including elevator cladding, platform signage and bathroom fixtures.

The platform is taking shape with new, shelters, benches and pylons (posts which display station names, hold up screens, speakers and more). The placement of slip-resistant tile is nearly finished on both platform and mezzanine. Crews have completed cleaning and replacement of sound wall panels right outside the station platform, which separate the station from the MARC train and nearby neighborhoods. Over the next few weeks, work will focus on the installation and testing of electrical features such as lighting and information displays.

Crews have completed the installation of edge lighting and begun the placement of slip-resistant tile. In the mezzanine area, crews are adding new faregate technology, making repairs to the station manager kiosk and adding framing for map displays. New panels for elevators and escalators are also being installed. In the coming weeks, crews will continue adding station features including pylons, platform shelters and Passenger Information Displays (PIDs).

West Hyattsville

Here, electric wiring has been placed. The crew is making provisions to test lighting features, PA speakers, fire alarms and CCTV (Closed-circuit Television) cameras. Crews forge ahead to repair cracks and are preparing to install skylights above station escalators. In the upcoming weeks, crews will embed and test digital displays on platform pylons.
