April 21 Construction Update

Published: Wednesday, April 21, 2021

Since the last construction update in early April, the project team has remained busy at Addison Rd and Arlington Cemetery stations as reconstruction work and installation of customer experience improvements continues for the Platform Improvement Project. Work continues to move ahead at a great pace, keeping the stations on track to open by the end of May.

Addison Rd Station

As a reminder, work at this station moved from the first half of the platform to the second half of the platform during the first weekend of April. On the second half of the platform, demolition of the old tile and topping slab is complete, and crews have installed shoring to support the platform prior to installing the platform edge and pouring the topping slab. In the mezzanine, installation of slip-resistant tile is nearly complete, and the kiosk booths have been painted. In the coming weeks, crews will install the granite edge and edge lights on the second half of the platform, before placing the topping slab, waterproofing the topping slab and installing slip-resistant tiles.

Arlington Cemetery Station

At this station, crews have nearly completed slip-resistant tile installation and grouting on both the platform and in the mezzanine area (station entrance). The project team has nearly finished installing and testing the edge lights (which blink on the edge of the platform when trains arrive) and globe lights (on top of the pylons). In the coming weeks, crews will continue to install customer experience improvements such as CCTV systems, station signage and conduit and wiring for , as well as paint the station and test systems prior to the station’s reopening in late May.
