Surface Parking Lot Improvement Projects

Overview

A total of 82 surface parking lots are located across 44 Metro stations. Metro’s parking operations enable thousands of customers to travel Metro every day, reducing the carbon footprint in the DMV region. To uphold Metro’s commitment to providing the region with safe and reliable transportation, Metro is completing surface parking lot improvement projects at several locations throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

Surface parking lot improvements generally involve some or all the following activities: milling, asphalt paving, striping, curb & gutter repairs, sidewalk and concrete repairs, full-depth pavement repair and installation of new customer signage. Prioritization of which parking lots to improve is determined by the age of asphalt, the need to update parking facilities to current standards and the benefits to customers. All surface lot improvements include upgrades needed to ensure compliance with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Projects may take a few months or up to a year, depending on the specific condition of the parking lots. During construction, customers may experience changes including traffic detours, walking detours, and parking closures. All customers are asked to follow posted safety signs during construction.
