Metro is seeking feedback on the closure of two surface lots and one Kiss & Ride lot and the addition of a new parking garage at the New Carrollton Metrorail Station as part of the next joint development phase.
About the Project
In 2003, Metro and Prince George’s County anticipated development around the New Carrollton Metrorail Station. Since then, multiple changes have taken place on the east side of the station as part of the joint development master plan, including the construction of a Metro parking garage and new residential and office facilities.
In order to move ahead with the next phase of the joint development plan to create a pedestrian-friendly and attractive urban environment and meet existing and future parking demands, Metro is proposing the following:
- Permanent closure of Park & Ride Lot 2 for future development
- Permanent closure of the East Lot for future development
- Permanent closure of the Kiss & Ride Lot located in front of the east entrance of the station
- Construction of a new Metro parking garage, replacing the County parking garage and most of the lost parking from the closed surface parking lots.
The public feedback period has closed.
Public feedback will be provided to WMATA’s Board of Directors in the summer of 2020 for approval. If approved, construction would begin in the fall of 2020. Notification would be provided prior to any closures.
