New Pay Station Project

Metro operates parking facilities at 44 Metrorail stations with daily and/or hourly parking. Starting in Fall 2021, short-term parking customers will be able to experience the same payment flexibility as daily parking customers, as all 2,500 cash and coin-only parking meters will be replaced with new modern pay stations.

The new pay stations will accept several payment options, including cash, credit/debit cards, or the ParkMobile app available on iOS and Android devices.  Parking facilities at Branch Ave, Downtown Largo, Morgan Boulevard and Takoma Park will be the first to receive the new pay stations. Systemwide installation is expected to be complete by the end of October 2021.

A Sustainable, Reliable and Fast Payment Option

The new, solar powered pay stations will be self-powered and help reduce waste by offering new receipt options by text or email.  Other features customers can also look forward to include:

  • Large color touchscreens
  • Multiple language options
  • Ability to display emergency announcements

Additionally, the modern software powering the pay stations are able to alert Metro staff when maintenance is needed, allowing issues to be addressed faster, ultimately leading to less downtime for the customer.
