In 2003, Donatelli Development entered into a joint development agreement with WMATA to purchase and develop approximately 0.96 acres located cattycorner from the west entrance of the U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metro Station (Green/Yellow Line).

In 2004, construction of The Ellington, a 190 unit residential building with 17,000 square feet of retail was completed, pioneering redevelopment of the U Street corridor.  The building has 177 underground parking spaces.
