Community Engagement

Community partnerships and relationships are the most effective means to ensure that all riders feel welcome and safe on Metro's buses and trains. While the women and men of the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) are committed to its mission of safety and protection, we cannot do the job alone. It takes trust and support from the communities that we serve.

The MTPD embraces the opportunity to increase our presence and engage with the community. We understand that we must build trust and demonstrate that we're all in this together. That's why you'll see us talking with customers in the stations, at community events, and in the region's schools.

To provide specialization and consistency when engaging young people in our system and local schools, the MTPD created a Youth Services Unit. The Youth Resources Officers in this unit work with school administrators to identify at-risk students, develop early intervention programs, and present and teach students about the Respect Your Ride campaign.
