Metro invites bids for former Royal Street Bus Garage, Brookland parcels

Highly sought-after full city block in Old Town Alexandria now up for bid

Royal Street Garage

Metro today announced that it has released three property solicitations for bid.

The first property – 600 North Royal Street – is the location of a former bus maintenance and storage facility that was vacated in August 2014.  The two-acre site covers a full city block and is two blocks from the Potomac River in the heart of Old Town North, Alexandria, VA.  The redevelopment of this property has been a priority of the Alexandria City Council and administration, as well as the surrounding community.

“Today’s good news is another important step in creating a vibrant community in North Old Town,” said City of Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille. “We look forward to redevelopment of the site that is appropriate for the neighborhood, improves our quality of life, and benefits our residents.”

The other properties being offered – 9th & Lawrence Sts. NE and 9th & Kearney Sts. NE – are vacant parcels in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC.  The two properties are approximately two blocks from the Brookland-CUA Metrorail Station.  Their reuse will strengthen the revitalization already underway in the area immediately surrounding the station.

Metro has no further operational need for any of the properties and has no facilities on them that will need to be relocated or replaced. As a result, the agency is expecting a strong response from potential purchasers of these properties.

The solicitations can be downloaded at www.wmata.com/realestate.
