Metrobus service changes effective December 29 continue Better Bus improvement program

Improvements include new Sunday MetroExtra service between Archives and Silver Spring

New Sunday MetroExtra service between Archives and Silver Spring and new service between East Falls Church and Annandale via Culmore and Seven Corners are among the improvements that will take effect Sunday, Dec. 29, as Metro advances its Better Bus initiative, a $5 million investment in service to improve on-time performance and reliability while reducing crowding for customers along routes in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

The Better Bus initiative includes more limited-stop MetroExtra routes and refinements to 11 existing priority corridors. Under the program, more than 150,000 customers—roughly one third of all weekday bus customers—will benefit from more frequent service, additional capacity, or expanded hours of operation.

Among the highlights of service changes effective December 29:

  • New Route 26A service between East Falls Church and Annandale via Culmore and Seven Corners
  • MetroExtra 79 service seven days a week between Archives and Silver Spring
  • Extension of Route K9 service to the FDA-Federal Research Center
  • Extension of Route 29N service from Fairfax Circle to Vienna Station
  • 12 additional trips on routes 29K and 29N and new, faster limited-stop service along Duke Street between King Street Station and Oasis Drive
  • Selected bus stops along routes 96, 97, W4 and X3 will be combined with other nearby stops to improve service.
