Metrobus service route changes in the District of Columbia begin the week of March 27


Schedule adjustments designed to improve service

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on 14 lines in the District of Columbia starting the week of March 27. These changes are in response to customer requests and will eliminate overcrowding on some routes, shorten passenger waits between trips on others, and improve transfer connections between buses and trains.

Pennsylvania Avenue Line, Routes 30, 32, 34, 35 and 36 Weekday, Saturday, and Sunday schedules will be changed in order to improve service reliability. During weekday morning and afternoon peak periods, additional recovery time will be provided at terminals so that buses will be able to leave on time on their next trips if they arrive late. The scheduled trip times in the timetables will not change, except that the weekday westbound Route 35 trip leaving Naylor Road Station at 5:09 p.m. will be changed to leave at 5:12 p.m.

14th Street Line, Routes 52, 53 and 54 During morning and afternoon peak periods, selected trips that begin or end at 14th Street and Colorado Avenue, N.W. will be extended to begin or end at Takoma Metrorail station to reduce crowding. In the northbound direction going toward Takoma, three trips will be extended between 6 and 8 a.m. and eight trips will be extended between 3:30 and 7 p.m. In the southbound direction from Takoma, four trips will be extended between 6 and 8:30 a.m. and four trips will be extended between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Other trip times will be adjusted slightly.

Takoma - Petworth Line, Route 62 Weekday southbound trips scheduled to leave Takoma Metrorail station at 4:57 and 5:25 a.m. will be changed to leave at 4:50 and 5:20 a.m. Weekday northbound trips scheduled to leave Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail Station at 5:58 and 6:32 a.m. will be changed to leave at 5:51 and 6:30 a.m.

Fort Totten - Petworth Line, Route 64 The first weekday trip scheduled to leave Fort Totten Metrorail Station at 5:16 AM will be changed to leave at 5:11 AM.

Petworth - 11th Street Line, Routes 66 and 68 Weekday southbound trips scheduled to leave Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail Station at 5:14, 5:32 and 5:42 a.m., and 3:48 and 3:57 p.m. will be changed to leave at 5:07, 5:27 and 5:37 a.m., and 3:46 and 3:56 p.m. Weekday northbound trips scheduled to leave Federal Triangle at 5:37 and 6:08 a.m., and 2:58, 3:08, 3:18 and 3:26 p.m will be changed to leave at 5:30 and 6:06 a.m., and 2:56, 3:05, 3:14 and 3:24 p.m.

North Capitol Street Line, Route 80 Weekday running times will be increased to improve service reliability. Four additional weekday trips will be scheduled in order to reduce crowding; one southbound in the morning peak period, one southbound in the afternoon peak period, and two northbound in the afternoon peak period. In the northbound direction during the afternoon peak period, trips will be scheduled to leave the Kennedy Center every 10-20 minutes and to originate at McPherson Square every 30 minutes.

U Street - Garfield Line, Routes 90 and 92 Between 7 and 8 a.m. on weekdays, two additional northbound trips will be scheduled, one on Route 90 and the other on Route 92, to reduce crowding. Other trip times during this period will be adjusted slightly.

Anacostia - Congress Heights Line, Routes A2, A6, A7, A8, A42, A46 and A48 Weekday running times will be revised to improve service reliability. Between 3 and 4 p.m. on weekdays, two additional southbound trips will be scheduled, one on Route A2 and the other on Route A6, to reduce crowding. Weekday, Saturday and Sunday trip times will be adjusted slightly to minimize bus layovers in Livingston for the convenience of customers riding around the Livingston loop.

Anacostia - Fort Drum Line, Route A4 Weekday, Saturday and Sunday trip times will be adjusted slightly to minimize bus layovers at D.C. Village for the convenience of customers riding around the D.C. Village loop.

Military Road - Crosstown Line, Routes E2, E3 Saturday running times will be increased to improve service reliability. The frequency of Saturday E3 service between Friendship Heights, Riggs Park, and Ivy City will be improved from every 45 minutes to every 40 minutes and the frequency of Saturday service between Friendship Heights and Fort Totten Metrorail station on Routes E2 and E3 combined will be improved from every 22-23 minutes to every 20 minutes.

P Street - LeDroit Park Line, Route G2 Weekday, Saturday and Sunday running times will be increased to improve service reliability. The frequency of Saturday and Sunday service will be improved from every 36 minutes to every 30 minutes. The span of service on Sunday will be extended from 11 p.m. to midnight in accordance with a Regional Bus Study recommendation.

Takoma - Walter Reed Line, Route K1 (NEW) A new Route K1 will be established to operate loop service between the Takoma Metrorail Station and Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), replacing a portion of Route K2. Service will operate every 18 minutes leaving Takoma Station between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. and between 3:36 and 6:54 p.m. At the entrance to WRAMC, a security guard will board each trip and ride to the exit gate. No one will be permitted to alight within WRAMC without proper identification.

Buses will operate a clockwise loop in the morning peak period from the Takoma Metrorail station turning right on Carroll Street, continuing on Cedar Street, left on 4th Street, right on Butternut Street, enter WRAMC at the Butternut Street gate, continue on Main Drive, continue completely around the circle just west of 14th Street, left on 14th Street, right on Dahlia Street, left on 13th Street, right on North Road, continue to the ramp to the underground parking, continue on the ramp up to Dahlia Street, left on Dahlia Street, exit WRAMC, left on Georgia Avenue, right on Kalmia Road, bear right on Eastern Avenue, right on Blair Road, left on Cedar Street, continue Carroll Street, left on Takoma Station roadway, and continue to the designated bus bay.

Buses will operate a counterclockwise loop in the afternoon peak period from the Takoma Metrorail station turning right on Carroll Street, continuing on Cedar Street, right on Blair Road, left on Eastern Avenue, bear left on Kalmia Road, left on Georgia Avenue, right on Main Drive (opposite Butternut Street), enter WRAMC at the Butternut Street gate, continue on Main Drive, continue completely around the circle just west of 14th Street, left on 14th Street, right on Dahlia Street, left on 13th Street, right on North Road, continue on the ramp to the underground parking, continue on the ramp up to Dahlia Street, left on Dahlia Street, exit WRAMC, right on Georgia Avenue, left on Butternut Street, left on 4th Street, right Cedar Street, continue Carroll Street, left on Takoma Metrorail station roadway, and continue to the designated bus bay.

Takoma - Fort Totten Line, Route K2 The route will be shortened to operate only between Fort Totten and Takoma Metrorail stations via the existing routing between those points. The portion of the existing route north and west of Takoma Station will be served by new Route K1. Route K2 service will operate every 20 minutes leaving Fort Totten Station between 6:19 and 9:02 a.m. and between 3:20 and 6:40 p.m. and leaving Takoma Metrorail station between 5:58 and 9:02 a.m. and between 3:20 and 6:40 p.m.

Benning Road - H Street Line, Route X2 Weekday running times will be increased to improve service reliability. Four additional trips in each direction will be scheduled throughout the day in order to reduce crowding. (NOTE: Effective Monday, February 7th, three additional eastbound X2 trips were scheduled to begin at Benning Road & 19th Street NE and operate to Minnesota Ave station on days when public school is open to reduce crowding due to students from the Friendship Edison Junior Academy Public Charter School.)
