New Metrobus service changes in the District of Columbia begin December 28


13 bus lines to see changes

Metrobus service will change on 13 lines in the District of Columbia, beginning Sunday, December 28.

32, 36 Pennsylvania Avenue Line
Weekday buses from the Southern Ave Metrorail station at 10:20, 10:50, 11:20 and 11:50 a.m., and 12:20 and 12:50 p.m. going to Farragut Square will be discontinued. An eastbound 36 bus will leave Virginia Avenue and 21st Street, NW, weekdays at 3:17 p.m. going to Naylor Road Metrorail station. Other bus times will change slightly.

42, New 43 Mount Pleasant Line
New weekday, rush hour only Route 43 buses will serve Mount Pleasant. Southbound buses will leave from Mount Pleasant and 17th streets, NW (H8 bus stop), and continue via Mount Pleasant Street, Columbia Road, California Street (cut-off to Connecticut Avenue), Connecticut Avenue (using the underpass at Dupont Circle) and continue via Connecticut Avenue and 17th Street, NW, to the terminal stand north of I (Eye) Street. Southbound buses will not serve the stops on Connecticut Avenue at Q Street and Dupont Circle.

Northbound 43 buses will start on the north side of I (Eye) Street NW, west of 13th Street, then continue on I (Eye) Street to 17th Street and Connecticut Avenue. Buses will continue on Connecticut Avenue (using the underpass at Dupont Circle), then follow the current 42 bus route to the Mount Pleasant terminal at Lamont and Mount Pleasant streets, NW. Northbound 43 buses will not serve stops on Connecticut Avenue at Dupont Circle, Q or 20th streets, NW. The new Route 43 service will replace approximately one-half of the current southbound Route 42 buses from Mount Pleasant to Farragut Square between 7:50 and 9:15 a.m., and all of the northbound 42 buses from Farragut Square between 3:20 and 7 p.m.

The 2:40 a.m. southbound Route 42 bus and the 2:15 and 3:04 a.m. Route 42 buses, which run only on Fridays, will be changed to run every weeknight. Other bus times also will change slightly.

60, 64 Fort Totten-Petworth Line
Route 64 will be extended to run between Fort Totten Metrorail station and Federal Triangle via Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail station. The route will not change between Fort Totten and Georgia Ave-Petworth stations. Buses will follow the current Route 66 bus routing between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations. Weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules will change. The frequency of Route 64 buses will be changed to every 15 minutes during the evening rush hours and every 22 minutes on Saturday.

62, New 63 Takoma-Petworth Line
Weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules will change. Route 62 buses will run every 15 minutes on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and every 20 minutes between 8 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, buses will run every 22 minutes. The new Route 63 will run between Takoma Metrorail station and Federal Triangle via Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail stations, following the 62 bus route between Takoma and Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail stations. Buses will follow the current 68 bus routing between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations. Route 63 buses will replace 62 buses on weekdays between 4:30 and 9 a.m. and between 3 and 7 p.m., and also on weekends between 4:50 and 7 a.m.

66, 68 Petworth-11th Street Line
Service between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations will be provided by the new Route 63 and extended 64 buses. Non-rush hour service will not be replaced on Sherman and Vermont avenues and 13th Street, NW.

A2, A6, A7, A8, A42, A46, A48 Anacostia-Congress Heights Line
Saturday and Sunday bus schedules will change. The 3:05 a.m. A48 bus from Livingston on Sunday will be discontinued. The A6, A8, A46 and A48 buses will end at 4501 3rd Street, SE, at all times.

A9 South Capitol Street
Bus schedules will change. The new southbound bus terminal is at 4501 3rd Street, SE. Customers may remain on the bus and ride to the stop on 3rd Street, SE, at Livingston Road at no additional cost.

K2 Takoma-Fort Totten Line
The 3:18 p.m. bus from Takoma Metrorail station will be discontinued. New southbound buses will leave Takoma Metrorail station weekdays at 4:07 (when public school is open) and 7 p.m.

L1, L2 Connecticut Avenue Line
The 6:18 p.m. northbound L1 bus from C and 17th streets, NW, will be changed to leave at 6:28 p.m. The 7:01 p.m. northbound L2 bus from Van Ness-UDC Metrorail station will leave at 7:05 p.m.

M5 Naylor Road Line
The M5 buses will be renumbered as Route 34 buses, and the route will be extended to run between Naylor Road and Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter via Eastern Market Metrorail stations. Buses will follow the current M5 routing between Naylor Road and Eastern Market Metrorail stations. From Eastern Market Metrorail station, buses will continue to Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter via Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Independence Avenue, 7th Street, SW, and Constitution Avenue, NW, to the terminal on 10th Street, NW. Eastbound buses will leave from the 10th Street, NW, terminal and continue via Pennsylvania Avenue, 7th Street and Independence Avenue, SW, to Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, and Eastern Market Metrorail station. From there, buses will resume the current M5 routing to Naylor Road Metrorail station. The frequency of service will be changed to every 20 minutes on weekdays between 4:30 and 9 a.m., and every 60 minutes after 9 p.m. weeknights and Saturday night. The first eastbound bus of the day and the last westbound bus on Sunday will be discontinued.

N2 Massachusetts Avenue Line
On weekdays, the 4:34 p.m. N2 from Farragut Square will be changed to leave that location at 4:32 p.m.

N22 Navy Yard Shuttle Line
Weekday schedule trip times will be changed. The frequency of N22 buses will remain at approximately 10 minutes at all times.

W4 Deanwood-Alabama Avenue Line
Northbound buses from Anacostia Metrorail station weekdays at 6:38, 6:50, 7:02, 7:12, 7:20 and 7:28 a.m. will be changed to leave at 6:34, 6:44, 7:04, 7:14, 7:24 and 7:34 a.m. The 7:36 a.m. bus from Anacostia Metrorail station will be discontinued, and a new bus will leave Anacostia Metrorail station at 6:54 a.m. going to Deanwood Metrorail station. New southbound buses will leave Deanwood Metrorail station weekdays at 7:49 a.m. and when school is open at 3:10 p.m. The 7:54 a.m. weekday bus from Deanwood Metrorail station will be changed to leave at 7:58 a.m.
