Metro Transit Police arrest Oxon Hill man for series of indecent exposure incidents

Louis Edward Smith III

Metro Transit Police have arrested Louis Edward Smith, III, 37, of Oxon Hill, Md. on multiple indecent exposure charges for a series of incidents committed aboard Metrorail and Metrobus.

The most recent incident occurred yesterday aboard a train between Addison Road and Capitol Heights in Prince George’s County, Md.

A second indecent exposure incident occurred Sunday morning, June 4, aboard a Blue Line train traveling between Capitol Heights and L’Enfant Plaza. The victim in that case was able to capture cell phone video of the suspect and provide it to MTPD.

MTPD detectives have also linked Smith to a third case that occurred aboard a Metrobus in Prince George’s County on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2017. In that case, the suspect boarded a SafeTrack Metrobus shuttle at New Carrollton Station, approached the bus operator and asked a question, at which point, the bus operator realized that the man was engaged in masturbation while speaking with her. The bus operator initiated a call to the Bus Operations Control Center, at which point the suspect spat on the operator and swore at her. He then left the scene prior to police arrival.

Smith was arrested by MTPD officers at Anacostia Station yesterday evening and charged with the June 4 offense that occurred in the District of Columbia. MTPD detectives have obtained warrants for the Maryland offenses, which include two additional counts of indecent exposure—one for the June 5 incident aboard a train and one for the Metrobus incident—as well as a second-degree assault charge for spitting on the bus operator.

MTPD detectives believe there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward. Anyone with information regarding these cases is encouraged to contact the Metro Transit Police Criminal Investigations Division at (301) 955-5000.
