Metro announces rail service updates

Customers get more frequent service as major construction starts

Metro is improving rail frequencies for many customers which includes more capacity and longer railcars, replacing some legacy 6-car trains with 7000-series 8-car trains on the Red and Green lines. 

The new schedule provides service improvements as construction starts south of National Airport for several weeks and as Yellow Line bridge construction begins and continues into 2023. 

“Providing customers with more travel options and more frequent service delivers on our priorities for the region,” said General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke. “As we invest in infrastructure, open new stations and maintain our existing system, we move towards safer, more reliable service.” 

Stations served by more than one line will provide customers with even more frequent service times:  

7K Service Improvements

  • Blue, Orange, or Silver line trains arrive every four minutes between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory 
  • Blue line trains arrive every eight minutes between National Airport and Stadium-Armory
    Orange or Silver line trains arrive every eight minutes between East Falls Church and Rosslyn
  • Blue and Silver line trains arrive every 12 minutes or less between Stadium-Armory and Largo
