Metro invites public to comment on proposed elimination of Route W9 MetroExtra - South Capitol Street Limited

Metro is seeking comment on the proposed elimination of Route W9 MetroExtra -South Capitol Street Limited due to the termination of funding from the U.S. Coast Guard which had subsidized 100 percent of the route's operating cost.

Route W9 operates weekday rush-hour service between L'Enfant Plaza and U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters at the St. Elizabeth's Campus and carries approximately 250 passenger trips per day.

Alternative service is available between Anacostia Metrorail Station and U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters on Metrobus routes A4 and W5. Additional service is also available on Metrobus Route A8 between Anacostia Metrorail Station and Livingston (Southern Avenue and South Capitol St. SE).

Metro encourages customers to provide input on the proposed elimination of Route W9.

Comments will be provided to the Metro Board of Directors for final review and approval in May 2018. If approved, this change will be implemented in June 2018.

HOW TO SUBMIT TESTIMONY NOT AT THE PUBLIC HEARING

Testimony may be submitted online at wmata.com/bus through 5 p.m. April 23, 2018. For those without access to computers or internet, testimony may also be mailed to the Office of the Secretary, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001. All comments must be received by the Office of the Secretary by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018. to be included in the public record.

All comments submitted online, along with written statements and public hearing comments will be part of the official public hearing record and presented to the Board of Directors as part of the final decision making process. Please note all statements are releasable to the public upon request, and may be posted on WMATA's website, without change, including any personal information provided.
