Bike-'N-Ride Bicycle Program

Welcome to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Bike 'N Ride Program. Metro recognizes the many benefits of bicycling. Biking can be an easy and inexpensive way to get to a Metro Station, a bus stop, or park and ride lot. Metro is working to promote bicycling as a healthy, environmentally friendly way of getting around the tri-state area. These efforts are an important part of the Metro's efforts to improve mobility and protect our environment.

About Bike 'N Ride

Bicycling has become exceedingly popular as people are using their bikes every day for commuting, shopping, and general transportation. With this in mind, Metro offers cyclists the following facilities and program.
Many Metro stations have facilities for bicycle storage so you can ride your bicycle to a station, leave it there and take Metrorail or Metrobus. Our storage facilities include racks and rental lockers. Facilities are available for free on a first-come, first-use basis. A list of convenient locations can be found here. Currently two types of racks can be found at Metrorail stations, Inverted U racks and Rally III racks.

Bike 'N Ride Guidelines

The Metro Bike-'N-Ride Guidelines are available online and in station take-one racks.

Bicycle Parking at Metro Stations

Bicycles lockers and racks are located at most Metrorail stations for cyclists wishing to split their commutes between bike and rail.

Additional Bicyling Information

There are several private and government organizations that offer helpful information on local bike trails, commuting, safety, advocacy, the annual Bike to Work day, the Street Smart Program and many other bike events, services and initiatives. Please note that Metro has no control over these sites and assumes no responsibility for their content.

Safety

Bike riding is a lot of fun, but accidents happen. According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (part of the Centers for Disease Control), bicycle helmets have been shown to reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 percent. The number one goal for Metro is safety and we want to ensure the same for the bicycle-transit community, click here for more information on being a safe rider both inside and outside the Metro System.
