Weekend service adjustments June 20-22 for rebuilding

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of June 20-22 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night and continuing through system closing on Sunday.

Green line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals. Red Line trains will run every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, with additional trains between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet during daytime hours. Orange, Blue and Yellow line trains will operate every 20 minutes.

Ronald Reagan National Airport platform elevator information
This weekend there is no elevator available from the Franconia-Springfield/Huntington platform. Riders needing an elevator access should exit at Crystal City and request a bus shuttle from the Station Manager, or at the beginning of their trip by calling (202) 962-1825.

Metrobus schedule change
On June 22, new Metrobus schedules will take effect. For a detailed list of routes with changes click here.

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.


Red Line  Red Line 
Trains every 10-20 minutes

Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 20 minutes
  • Between Grosvenor & NoMa-Gallaudet: every 10 minutes Saturday & Sunday from 9AM-9PM only

Work Performed: Switch replacement at Shady Grove, along with tie and insulator renewal between Shady Grove and Twinbrook; insulator, fastener, fence and light pole replacement between NoMa-Gallaudet and Rhode Island Avenue

Travel Tips

  • Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders. To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.
  • Customers traveling between Fort Totten and downtown DC should consider the Green Line for a faster trip.
  • Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. (Trip Planner is updated to reflect weekend rebuilding schedules on Fridays; please check on Friday afternoon or later.) You will experience the additional wait time on the platform. Once your train departs the station, it is not expected to encounter additional delays en route.

Orange Line Orange Line 
Trains every 20 minutes

Orange Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.

Work Performed: Platform reconstruction, communications equipment replacement and grout pad rehabilitation between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly

   Blue Line
Trains every 20 minutes

Blue Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.

Work Performed: Switch installation at National Airport, along with rail fastener and grout pad renewal between National Airport and Braddock Road.

Yellow Line
Trains every 20 minutes between Huntington and Mt Vernon Sq only

Yellow Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend. All trains will operate to/from Mt Vernon Sq, rather than Fort Totten. If you are traveling to or from a station north of Mt Vernon Sq, use a Green Line train to complete your trip.
