WINTER WEATHER SERVICE ADVISORY

Service Overview for Tuesday, January 21

The Metro service area is under a Winter Storm Warning until 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday service information follows:

Metrorail: Rail service is currently running on a regular weekday schedule; however, service levels may be reduced later in the day due to expected low ridership and deteriorating weather conditions. During the traditional evening rush hour, trains will run about every 6 minutes on all lines.  For your safety, travel only if necessary. If you must travel, plan to arrive at your destination before the worst of the storm, and be prepared to remain there until the storm passes.  Check wmata.com before starting your trip or sign up for MetroAlerts to receive updated service information by email or text message.

Metrobus:  Metrobus service is currently operating on "SEVERE" SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTING due to weather and road conditions. Bus service has been reduced to only major arteries listed here.

For the start of the Wednesday morning commute, Metrobus will likely start with "MODERATE" SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTINGMetrobuses will only operate on designated snow routes, as indicated on our website.  To find out how your bus route will operate, please select your location:

MetroAccess:  Due to the weather forecast and expected road conditions, we have suspended all MetroAccess paratransit service on Tuesday, January 21. Due to weather conditions, the MetroAccess reservation call center will close at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Service will be restored when it is safe to do so; however a time for service restoration is not yet known.

Accessibility Advisory Subcommittee Meeting:  The scheduled meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Subcommittee at Metro Headquarters (originally planned for 4-6 p.m. Tuesday) has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date to be determined.

Winter Travel Tips

  • Before you start your trip, find out how Metro is serving your area and don't let yourself get stranded once you're out.
  • Dress warmly. You may be outside longer than normal.
  • Do not stand in the street while waiting for a bus.
  • Use extreme caution when walking on exposed surfaces, including parking lots and station platforms. Never run for a bus or train.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to a Metro employee.
