Weekend service adjustments July 26-28 due to rebuilding
Metro's multi-year rebuilding effort will continue over the weekend of July 26-28 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night and continuing through system closing on Sunday.
Service on the Blue, Yellow and Green lines will operate on a regular weekend schedule, with the exception of a minor service adjustment affecting Greenbelt Station only (details below). On the Red Line, trains will operate every 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the station; and on the Orange Line, buses will replace trains between Vienna and Ballston as rebuilding and Silver Line testing continues.
Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
Red Line 10 p.m. Fri., July 26 through closing Sun., July 28
Trains every 16 minutes between Shady Grove & Glenmont
Red Line trains will operate as follows:
Service information has been revised to reflect the cancellation of single tracking between NoMa and Ft Totten.
Work Performed: Between Van Ness and Friendship Heights, crews will rehabilitate third-rail systems, eliminate joints in the rail, repair drains, mitigate leaks, clean drains and remove standing water.
Travel Tip: Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders, especially those along Wisconsin or Connecticut avenues. To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.
Orange Line 10 p.m. Fri., July 26 through closing Sun., July 28
Buses replace trains between Vienna & Ballston; normal service elsewhere
Orange Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between New Carrollton and Ballston throughout the weekend. (Regular intervals are every 12 minutes during daytime hours, and every 15-20 minutes at other times.)
Free shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between Vienna and Ballston.
Stations closed: Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church, East Falls Church
Work Performed: Crews will perform necessary switch and signal testing for the new Silver Line, as well as tamping, ballast work, tie and insulator renewal, third-rail maintenance and rail de-stressing.
Travel Tip: If you normally park at Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church or East Falls Church, consider driving to Ballston instead. However, note that parking facilities in the Ballston area are not operated by Metro and may require payment to park.
Blue Line Regular service (no scheduled work)
Yellow Line Regular service between Huntington & Fort Totten
Green Line 10 p.m. Fri., July 26 through closing Sun., July 28
Normal service between College Park & Branch Ave; additional time traveling to/from Greenbelt Station only
Green Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between College Park and Branch Ave stations. (Regular intervals are every 12 minutes during daytime hours, and every 15-20 minutes at other times.)
During daytime hours, every other Green Line train will begin/end at College Park, rather than Greenbelt. Passengers traveling to or from Greenbelt Station only may experience a 12-minute wait for the next train.
Work Performed: Outside Greenbelt Station, crews will continue construction on a new test track to accept Metro's new fleet of 7000-series railcars.
Travel Tip: If you normally travel to or from Greenbelt Station, consider using College Park instead.
