Metrobus Service Changes, Effective June 30, 2013

Beginning June 30, 2013

Metrobus service changes go into effect. Highlights include:

  • New K2 trips are being added to accommodate students
  • More direct C27 service to Six Flags, between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend
  • A later MetroExtra trip has been added the 16X route
  • New MetroExtra stops are being added to the 16Y route
  • Schedule adjustments to help buses stay on schedule.

Below is a complete summary of bus changes effective June 30, 2013:

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

32 Pennsylvania Avenue
One additional westbound trip to Foggy Bottom will operate at 8:09 a.m. in order to relieve crowding.

42, 43 Mount Pleasant
Running times will be adjusted on weekdays and weekends.  Buses will operate every 10-12 minutes on Saturdays and every 15 minutes on Sundays in order to reflect traffic conditions. Due to low ridership, Sunday service will end one hour early.

63 Takoma-Petworth
Running times will be adjusted and two additional trips will be added during both a.m. and p.m. peak hours in order to reduce crowding. On weekdays, bus service will operate every 8-10 minutes.

94 Stanton Road
Running times will be adjusted in order to improve performance. New weekday service will operate every 12 minutes during a.m. and p.m. peak hours, every 32 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and every 18 minutes between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Due to low ridership, the 5:37 and 6:01 a.m. trips to Stanton Road will be discontinued.

96, 97 East Capitol Street-Cardozo
New Saturday and Sunday running times will be implemented in order to improve performance. Bus service will operate every 24 minutes during midday hours, every 30 minutes on Saturdays, and every 30 minutes on Sundays.

D5 MacArthur Boulevard-Georgetown
New weekday running times will be implemented in order to improve performance. Please check the new timetable for new trip times.

G2 P Street-LedDroit Park
To reflect the long term detour that began on March 10, 2013, the #301 Bryant Street NW bus stop will be relocated to 4th & V Street NW.

K2 Takoma-Fort Totten
New trips will be added in order to accommodate students on school days. A northbound trip to Takoma will operate at 7:51 a.m. A northbound trip to Takoma and one southbound trip to Fort Totten will leave their respective departure points at 1:34 p.m. on Wednesdays.

U5, U6 Mayfair-Marshall Heights
New Saturday and Sunday running times will be implemented to reflect traffic conditions. Buses will operate every 20 minutes.

W4 Deanwood-Alabama Avenue
New Saturday and Sunday running times will be implemented in order to improve performance. Bus service will operate every 30 minutes on weekday evenings, every 21 minutes on Saturdays and every 20 minutes on Sundays.

MARYLAND

89M Laurel
All midday service on the 89M will operate 5 minutes later in both directions in order to provide a connection to Laurel at Greenbelt Station from Route G12 and G14.

B21, B22 Bowie State University
Adjustment to a.m. and p.m. peak hour trip times in order to schedule connections to Pointer Ridge Route C28.

C2, C4 Greenbelt-Twinbrook
Saturday and Sunday schedules will be slightly adjusted in order to reflect current traffic conditions. Saturday bus service between Riggs Road and Wheaton Metrorail Station will operate every 12 minutes Sunday C4 trips will operate every 15 minutes.

C27 Central Avenue
Route C27 will provide extra service as needed between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend in order to accommodate visitors to Six Flags Amusement Park. The C27 will run a more direct route between Six Flags, Addison Road and Largo Town Center Station. Please see the timetable for more details.

C28 Pointer Ridge
Additional time will be added to the schedule and trip times will be adjusted slightly in order to reflect travel times more accurately.

F13 Cheverly-Washington Business Park
A new westbound trip to Cheverly will depart Whitfield Chapel Road & Volta Street at 6:04 a.m. and will service all stops 30 minutes earlier than the current first trip.

K9 New Hampshire Avenue Limited
K9 trips will be adjusted In order to coordinate with K6 departure times from Fort Totten Station.  K9 service will start and end slightly earlier than the current schedule.

P12 Eastover-Addison Road
Saturday trips will operate every 20 minutes in order to better reflect travel times. Most Sunday trips will operate every 30 minutes.

R1, R2 Riggs Road
A new weekday southbound trip to Fort Totten will depart Metzerott & Riggs Road at 5:24 a.m.The three southbound Rd trips departing at 5:00 a.m., 5:27 a.m. and 6:29 a.m. will be changed to depart from Calverton Loop at Powder Mill & Cherry Hill Road. Buses will make one pass around the loop and turn south from Cherry Hill Road on to Powder Mill Road continuing to Fort Totten Station. Saturday and Sunday travel times will be slightly adjusted.

VIRGINIA

7A, 7F, 7E, 7Y Lincolnia-North Fairlington
7A and 7F service between Lincolnia Road & Quantrell Avenue and Landmark Center will be discontinued. Replacement service will be provided by DASH Route AT1 on Quantrell Avenue and Beauregard Street between Lincolnia & Landmark.

Route 7F will be rerouted via King Street, North Hampton Drive and Braddock Road in order to provide hourly service on weekdays between the Stonegate community, Shirlington and Pentagon Station. On Saturdays, 7F buses will be rerouted via more direct routing than is currently being provided by Route 25A, 25C and 25E.

Route 7B will continue to provide service to the Stonegate community when the Route 7F is not operating (northbound a.m. to Pentagon Station and southbound p.m. departing from Pentagon Station).

Service on Route 7A and 7F between 28th & King Street and the intersection of King & Beauregard Street, and Beauregard Street & Braddock Road will be provided by the 7A only. Buses will run every 5-10 minutes on weekdays for a.m. northbound peak hour service and for p.m. southbound peak hour service. During weekday southbound a.m. peak service and northbound p.m. peak service, buses will run every 40-60 minutes.

7E trips will be re-designated as 7A trips in order to simplify route designations.

On Route 7Y, weekday peak a.m. southbound and p.m. northbound trips between Pentagon and Federal Triangle Station will be adjusted to operate every 25-35 minutes. The 9:25 a.m. trip departing Federal Triangle and 6:48 p.m. trip leaving Pentagon Station will be discontinued.

8S, 8W, 8X, 8Z Foxchase-Seminary Valley
Route 8S and 8Z will make slight adjustments to running and trip times. Route 8Z bus service will operate every 11 minutes during a.m. peak hours and every 15 minutes during p.m. peak hours.

Route 8X will be permanently discontinued. Replacement service between Howard Street and Quaker Lane will be available on DASH Route AT2.

Route 8W will be rerouted via Seminary Road & Howard Street to cover the previous 8X segment passing Inova Alexandria Hospital. Route 8W will operate every 11 minutes during a.m. peak hours and every 15 minutes during p.m. peak hours.

Route 8W and 8Z service on the common route between Pentagon Station, Van Dorn Street & Taney Avenue will run every 6 minutes during a.m. peak and every 8 minutes during p.m. peak hours.

16A, 16B, 16D, 16E, 16J, 16P Columbia Pike

A new time-point will be created at Columbia Pike & Orme Street due to the demolition of Navy Annex. The westbound time-point for Columbia Pike & John Marr Drive will be moved one stop east to Columbia Pike & Evergreen Lane to allow for a common time point for all lines. Scheduled times will be adjusted one minute earlier from the times shown for the John Marr Drive time-points.

16G, 16H, 16K Columbia Heights West-Pentagon City
A new time-point will be created at Columbia Pike & Orme Street due to the demolition of Navy Annex,  

16X MetroExtra Columbia Pike-Federal Triangle
The westbound trip leaving 11th & E Street NW to Pentagon at 6:40 p.m. will be extended to Culmore arriving at 7:23 p.m in response to customer requests for a later limited stop trip to Culmore.

MetroExtra designated stops will be added at Columbia Pike & Oakland Street in response to customer requests. This location is halfway between existing MetroExtra stops at Glebe Road and George Mason Drive. Scheduled trips will be adjusted by one minute to accommodate the additional stop at Oakland Street.

Weekday peak a.m. westbound and p.m. eastbound short trips between Pentagon and Federal Triangle will be adjusted to operate every 20-35 minutes. Trips leaving Federal Triangle at 9:24 a.m. and 9:44 a.m. and Pentagon Station at 6:40 p.m. will be discontinued.

16Y MetroExtra Columbia Pike-Farragut Square
MetroExtra designated stops will be added at Columbia Pike & Oakland Street In response to requests from customers. This is approximately halfway between existing MetroExtra stops at Glebe Road and George Mason Drive. Scheduled times will be adjusted by one minute to accommodate the additional stop at Oakland Street.
