Orange Line: Rush+ service information

Metro is enhancing rush hour to serve more customers, reduce crowding and provide new transfer-free travel opportunities. It's all called Rush+ and it begins June 18, 2012.

Rush+ will improve service for nearly 110,000 customers on the Green, Yellow, Blue and Orange lines. Twenty-one stations will get more frequent service with six additional trains every hour of rush hour.

During peak periods, more than 46,000 Orange Line customers will benefit from six additional trains per hour – three in each direction – between Vienna and Largo Town Center. This will result in 18 percent more capacity on the line, or approximately 2,600 seats per hour.

Here is a station-by-station breakdown of the changes:

Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church, East Falls Church, Ballston, Virginia Sq, Clarendon, Court House

Rush+ changes will mean more frequent Orange Line service at your station, beginning June 18, 2012.  These new trains will travel to and from Largo Town Center, not New Carrollton.

Every hour of rush hour:

  • 3 additional Orange Line trains will operate in each direction, providing more capacity and reduced crowding.
  • These additional trains will operate between Vienna and Largo Town Center, providing the option of a transfer-free ride for customers traveling to Blue Line stations east of Stadium-Armory.
  • Check the digital destination sign before boarding to confirm the destination.

Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom, Farragut West, McPherson Sq, Metro Center, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, L'Enfant Plaza, Federal Center SW, Capitol South, Eastern Market, Potomac Ave, Stadium-Armory

During rush hour, these stations will be served by the same number of trains – but slightly more Orange Line, and slightly fewer Blue Line trains.

Every hour of rush hour:

  • 3 more Orange Line trains to Vienna
  • 3 more Orange Line trains to Largo Town Center (not New Carrollton).
  • 3 fewer Blue Line trains will operate in each direction. Some customers may wait up to six additional minutes for a Blue Line train. Bus service options also are available between Crystal City and Rosslyn.
  • Check the destination sign before boarding to confirm your train’s destination.

Minnesota Ave, Deanwood, Cheverly, Landover, New Carrollton

Rush+ does not result in any service changes at these stations.  However, elsewhere on the Orange Line, additional trains will operate during rush hours between Vienna and Largo Town Center.  Before boarding an Orange Line train, be sure to check the digital destination sign. To return to this station, board a train to New Carrollton – not Largo Town Center.
