Metro reserved parking permit general requirements
Reserved parking permits are subject to the following provisions:
Fees:
- The Reserved Parking Permit monthly fee of $55 does not cover the cost of daily parking. Permit holders must pay the daily parking fee on exiting/entering Metro parking facilities, in addition to the fee paid for a reserved parking permit.
- Note: SmarTrip cards with full parking fees are the only accepted form of payment for parking, except at Anacostia, Franconia-Springfield, Largo Town Center, New Carrollton, Shady Grove and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, where major credit cards are also accepted. You will not be able to exit (or enter for pay-on-entry stations) any other Metro parking facilities unless your SmarTrip card has enough money on it to pay the full parking fee.
- Reserved Parking customers will have their credit cards billed as the original and renewal permits are individually processed. To avoid delay in receiving monthly permits, you are required to furnish new credit card numbers and/or expiration dates before the old expiration dates. (To update credit/debit card expiration date, please complete and submit the Reserved Parking customer information update form. To update your credit card number, please download, print, complete and mail the Changed Debit/Credit Card Information form. For security reason, please do not e-mail your credit card number.)
- The fee amounts for prepaid permits are not guaranteed beyond 30 days. Partial or full refunds for used monthly reserved parking permits will not be made.
- A $20 processing and collection fee will be assessed for each dishonored credit card purchase. Dishonored credit cards will result in further renewals not being accepted or processed for the applicant until all past payments and outstanding balances have been resolved to WMATA’s satisfaction.
- A $5 replacement fee is charged for lost permits. To avoid $5 replacement charge, you must contact us by the last day of the month if you have not received your permit. Your should expect to receive your permit each month by the 25th of the month before they go into effect.
Use:
- Reserved Parking Permits are good only as identification to park in special spaces reserved for permit holders.
- To avoid ticketing, reserved permits must be hanged from the rear view mirror.
- Other individuals (spouse, family or carpool member) may use the permit. Each permit is good for parking only one vehicle at a time. Parking permits are not issued for any particular vehicle and may be used in any vehicle able to fit in a standard WMATA parking space. Permit accounts are not transferable from one individual to another.
- The permits are good only during the month indicated on the permit and may not be used (or honored) either before or after that calendar month. Parking permits can only be used at Metro operated parking facilities for the station indicated on the permit.
- Reserved permit holders may park for multi-day periods up to 10 days while displaying a valid permit when parked in a reserved permit space. Reserved Permits for both months must be displayed if a multi-day parking occasion spans into the second month. Vehicles parked at a reserve space in excess of 10 straight days are considered abandoned and may be towed.
- Except as noted later, all posted parking and traffic restrictions apply. Parking is authorized only in clearly marked parking spaces within the lines.
- When no reserved spaces are available:
- Reserved parking spaces will be reserved until only 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays for persons with valid Reserved Parking permits. After 10 a.m. the reserved spaces become available for general parking.
- Persons with valid Reserved Parking permits finding all reserved spaces occupied upon arrival prior to 10 a.m. are permitted to park in any WMATA metered space in the Kiss-and-Ride facility. However, to avoid ticketing, such customers are required to display their reserved parking permits and put sufficient money in the meters to keep them from expiring before 3:30 p.m. Those arriving after 10 a.m. are not authorized to use their permits to park in metered spaces. The metered spaces are normally restricted parking from 2 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., intended for 15-minute driver-attended waiting only. Overflow Reserved Parking permit holders arriving before 10 a.m. properly displaying permits are exempt from these restrictions, but must pay meter fees. Use of Kiss-and-Ride metered spaces by Reserved Parking permit holders will be monitored. Reserved Parking permits may not be used nor displayed in Kiss-and-Ride facilities before 10 a.m., even at parking meters with time on them, if there are empty reserved parking spaces in Park-and-Ride lot(s) at the station.
- Parking in all other regulated or non-designated areas or spaces is not permitted and is subject to ticketing and possible towing.
- If no spaces reserved for Reserved Permit holders in park-and-ride facilities or metered spaces in kiss-and-ride lots or metered spaces on Metro access roads are available, please call WMATA’s Parking Information number (202) 962-2807.
