Silver Spring Station Penguin Rush Hour, 1989
Sally Callmer
Painted mural
Penguin Rush Hour, by Maryland artist Sally Callmer, is located at Silver Spring station on the Red Line in Silver Spring, Maryland. The playful 100-foot-long, 8-foot-high painted mural whimsically depicts crowds of Penguins as Metro customers during rush hour. The mural's popularity inspired the City of Silver Spring to adopt a penguin as its unofficial mascot. Penguin Rush Hour was funded by Montgomery County and First American Bank.
