Description of Work - The work includes, but is not limited to the modernization of approximately seventy (70) Westinghouse Modular 100 metal balustrade escalators at seventeen (17) Metrorail stations. The units are generally located on station platforms and generally range from 10' -12' in vertical rise. 65 Single drive units

3 Three drive units The general scope of work includes but not limited to: disassembly to the truss and installation, replacement, and/or refurbishment all major components including: 1. Control systems and remote monitoring interface
2. Electrical wiring, conduit, and lighting
3. Combplates and safety switches

5. Step refurbishment
6. Speed reducers and motors
7. Handrail drive assemblies and handrails

As of April 25, 2007, the Jackson Graham Building has enhanced security. All persons must have WMATA Issued Identification and/or Government issued ID's and all possessions are x-ray scanned. Following the Pre-Proposal Conference, a site visit will be made of escalators currently being modernized, modernized escalators, and escalators included in this RFP. Since we intend to enter escalator pits, machine rooms, etc., please wear appropriate clothing/shoes. Anticipate completing the site visits at approximately 5 pm. WMATA Vendor Registration System - A twelve page brochure is available for download at (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) The Vendor Registration System (VRS) on WMATA's Website has been designed to provide services to potential vendors who want access to WMATA through the Internet. Anyone can register as a vendor with WMATA. The vendor database is used by the Authority's contracting personnel to develop bidders lists and to notify vendors of contract opportunities. One feature of the VRS is the ability for you to pre-select certain commerce codes and/or material codes that match the type of services or commodities you provide. WMATA uses two coding systems: 1) The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), which is the expanded Standard Industry Code (SIC) system, and 2) the WMATA Material Code System used to identify stock items that you provide. Once you have registered as a potential bidder, you can update or modify your registration information at any time. You can also specify and change your access password. Bid Guarantee, Insurance, and DBE - A bid guarantee, in the amount of 5% of the proposal price, is required with the bid if it is greater than $100,000. The successful bidder must provide Performance and Payment Bonds after award of the contract in the specified amounts. An insurance certificate with Worker's Compensation (Statutory), Employer's Liability, Commercial General Liability, Automobile Liability coverages with WMATA included as an additional insured as stated, will also be required of the successful bidder.
