WMATA Risk Management Department Insurance Requirements for Services & Materials Suppliers

Materials/Stock Items Suppliers – Delivered to WMATA Facilities in Contractor/Supplier’s Vehicles

  • Workers’ Comp including Employer’s Liability with $1,000,000 limits each accident/disease
  • Commercial General Liability with limits of $2,000,000 per occurrence
  • Automobile Liability with combined single limits of $2,000,000 per occurrence
  • Transit Insurance for materials purchased FOB shipping shipping point

Materials/Stock Items Suppliers – Delivered to WMATA Facilities Via Common Carrier (e.g., UPS, Fed Ex, etc.)

  • No evidence of insurance required

Services – Contractor Working on WMATA Property

  • Workers’ Comp including Employer’s Liability coverage with $1,000,000 limits each accident/disease
  • Commercial General Liability with limits of $2,000,000 per occurrence
  • Automobile Liability with combined single limits of $2,000,000 per occurrence
  • Railroad Protective Liability with limits of $2,000,000 per occurrence/$6,000,000 aggregate for work performed within 50’ of WMATA railroad property. Note that WMATA has a blanket RRP program underwritten by LIU from which the Contractor may purchase this insurance.

    NOTE: These insurance requirements are the bare minimum; RISK shall assess each project’s exposure to the Authority and determine what types and limits of insurance are required. For large construction projects, project-specific insurance is required.

A certificate of insurance issued to WMATA (COI) is always required to evidence WMATA’s contractual insurance requirements. WMATA must be added as an Additional Insured on the Contractor’s CGL policy, and the Named Insured on the RRP insurance.
