Project

  • Three office buildings
  • Either a fourth office building or a hotel
  • Four apartment buildings
  • Approximately 200,000 sf of retail space
  • Overall, the project is planned for 2,700,000 sf, evenly split between commercial and residential uses.

Montgomery County’s vision for the White Flint area, as reflected in the sector plan approved by the Montgomery County Council on March 23, 2010, is to create a new urban/suburban downtown similar to Bethesda. The plan for North Bethesda Center reflects that vision. The focal point is planned to be a new retail oriented, pedestrian friendly Main Street, perpendicular to Rockville Pike and accessed via a new bridge to be constructed over the rail tracks, approximately half way between Old Georgetown Road and Marinelli Road (see site plan above). Blocks A, B, and C on the plan include proposed office buildings. Blocks E, F, G, and H are apartment buildings including a grocery store in Block E. A hotel or 4th office building is shown as the "L" shaped building between Block A and the rail tracks. One phase has been completed and another should commence in the Spring of 2010:

  • Currently completed: Phase I (Block E on the site plan) containing the 312 unit Wentworth House apartments and the 65,000 sf Harris Teeter grocery
  • Next Phase: Phase II, the southern half of Block C, a 362,000 sf expansion of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission headquarters, which is now located on the south side of Marinelli Road. The LEED Silver certified building is expected to add approximately 6,500 daily trips to the White Flint Metrorail station.
