SmartBenefits makes it even easier to use Metrochek transit and parking benefits. It's a web-based program that allows employers to load the dollar value of an employee's Metrochek benefit directly to a SmarTrip® card.

Effective January 2008, WMATA will transition all federal and private-sector employers to SmartBenefits®. SmartBenefits® is a convenient Web-based program that lets an employer assign the dollar value of an employee’s monthly commuting benefit directly to his or her SmarTrip® card right from your computer using our Web site. With SmartBenefits®, you’ll immediately eliminate the need to distribute Metrocheks to Metrorail, Metrobus, most regional bus systems, and van pool commuters. Currently, close to 70 percent of all Metrocheks are used for Metrorail, Metrobus and van pool services. SmartBenefits® is rapidly gaining favor among employers and employees, close to 70,000 employees now receive their monthly commuting benefit through SmartBenefits®.

1. Apply for SmartBenefits account

2. Collect employee's SmarTrip® serial number

3. Enter employee's SmarTrip® serial number and benefit amounts between first and 15th day of the month for benefits for upcoming month
