Metrochek is an exchangeable
farecard voucher, available in denominations of $1, $5, $10, $20, and
$30. Metrocheks are used just like ordinary Metrorail farecards. Unused
Metrocheks can be exchanged for fares of equal or greater value for Metro
passes, van pool, and commuter bus and rail services.
Employers can order Metrocheks along with their SmartBenefits
order. If your order consists of Metrocheks ONLY, please use the Metrochek
order form, or call 202-962-5700 / 5716. Pre-arranged Metrochek orders
can be picked up at the Metro sales offices listed below:
- Pentagon Transit Center Sales Office (Monday through Friday, 7:30am-3:00pm)
- Western Metrobus Division Sales Office, 5230 Wisconsive Avenue, NW (Monday through Friday 9:00am-3:00pm)
- Alexandria Fare Distibution and Sales, 3301 Eisenhower Avenue (Monday through Friday 7:30am-3:00pm)
- Metro Center Sales Office, 12th and F Streets, NW (Monday through Friday 7:30am-3:00pm)

Employers should only provide Metrocheks to employees that use transit
services that are not currently accepting SmarTrip®. Otherwise,
your employees should collect their monthly commuting benefits through
the SmartBenefits process, which allows them to pick up their benefit
very conveniently on their registered SmarTrip® card in any Metro
station during the benefit month or assign payment to their registered
van pool operator. Enroll as a SmartBenefits Employer or call 202-962-1326
for additional information.
SmartBenefits gives your employees one card to
pay for Metrorail, Metrobus, registered van pools and parking at Metro-operated
lots. SmarTrip® will be introduced on MARC, VRE and other bus systems
in the region.
In the Washington metropolitan region, Metrochek
program participants include over 100
area
bus and vanpool commuter services, on MARC and VRE, and, of
course, on Metrorail and Metrobus.
