On September 25, 2005, Metro's Board of Directors established a Riders' Advisory Council. The Council advises the Board on issues affecting Metrobus, Metrorail, and MetroAccess service.
The 21-member Council includes six individuals from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, two at-large members, and the head of the Accessibility Advisory Committee.
Council meetings are open to the public. Members of the public are provided the opportunity and encouraged to address the Council as part of the meeting. There is a public comment period at the beginning of each meeting during which individuals can address any topic. There are also opportunities to provide comments related to specific items on the agenda either in person during the meeting, or online prior to the meeting via links on the agenda page. Individuals providing comments in person are asked to limit their comments to two (2) minutes per instance. Individuals providing comments online are asked to do so prior to noon on the day of the meeting.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the lobby level Meeting Room at Metro's Headquarters located at 600 5th Street, NW, Washington, DC.
The official application period for fall selection closed on November 9, 2015. We accept applications year round with periodic review and appointments when current member appointments end. To apply for a position on the Riders' Advisory Council, please complete and submit an online application form. Or if you prefer, you may print, complete, and mail a paper application.
Please note that the Riders' Advisory Council is unable to address specific service complaints. If you have a complaint, commendation or suggestion for Metro, please contact Metro customer service.
