Metro reminds customers of this weekend's early last train departures on the Orange Line at Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail stations due to Dulles Rail Project
Last weekend trains departing Vienna and Dunn Loring 17 minutes early
This weekend (June 5 to 6), there will be no train service between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations to allow the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project to continue major construction activities that eventually will connect the new rail line to the existing Metrorail system. Customers using the Orange Line in this area should add 30 minutes to their travel plans to transfer to a free shuttle bus to get past the affected work area. Throughout the weekend, extra Metro employees will be on hand to guide customers to connecting free shuttle buses.
Regular service on the Orange Line between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station will resume when the Metrorail system opens on Monday morning, June 7.
From 7 a.m., Saturday, June 5, to closing on Sunday, June 6, the Orange Line will be split into two sections, the first running from Vienna/Fairfax-GMU to West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations, and the second between the New Carrollton and East Falls Church Metrorail stations. The East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations will remain open.
Because there is no train service between the West Falls-VT/UVA and East Falls Church Metrorail stations, Metro will operate free shuttle bus service between these two stations. The shuttle buses will operate approximately every 15 minutes.
Last Orange Line trains departing Vienna/Fairfax-GMU
On June 5, and 6, the last Orange Line train departing the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station for the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station will leave approximately 17 minutes earlier than usual. This will allow riders to connect to the free shuttle buses and to the last trains departing the East Falls Church Metrorail station headed towards the New Carrollton Metrorail station.
On Saturday, June 5, the last Orange Line train will depart Vienna/Fairfax-GMU at 2:08 a.m., and from Dunn Loring at 2:11 a.m., to arrive at West Falls Church-VT/UVA at 2:15 a.m.
On Sunday, June 6, the last Orange Line train will depart Vienna/Fairfax-GMU at 11:08 p.m., and from Dunn Loring at 11:11 p.m., to arrive at West Falls Church-VT/UVA at 11:15 p.m.
This weekend, the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project contractors will conduct work on a pier located east of the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station. They will drive piles along the fence adjacent to the I-66 westbound and eastbound lanes and replace ties on the tracks. All of this work is necessary to connect the new rail line to the Orange Line.
Orange Line riders in Northern Virginia who plan to take Metro to events in downtown Washington this weekend should build an extra 30 minutes into their travel plans.
From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 5, and 6, Metro employees will be available at the East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations to help customers navigate around the disruption.
To alert customers about this work, Metro will send e-Alerts, place notices on station kiosks, and make train and system announcements. Additional information will be available on Metro=s web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.
The Trip Planner, located on Metro=s Web site, will not reflect the impact of this work on its schedules. For more information on traveling by Metrobus or Metrorail, customers may call (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780.
