Important tips to help recover lost items - Please review before submitting a lost item report

File a lost item report

Describe the item lost and not the contents

To increase the chances of recovering lost items please report the item that you lost and not the contents. If you lost a backpack with a CD player inside do not report a lost CD player. You should report a lost backpack and in the comments section of the form you may list the contents of your lost item or any additional details that may assist us in identifying it.

Provide accurate information

Searches are performed off of the values you select from the menus so please take a moment and ensure that the selections you make are accurate. If you lost a briefcase but report it as a backpack it may prevent us from identifying you as the owner. The exact date, time and location that you lost the item are very important and will assist us in locating lost items.

Reporting a lost item for someone else

If you are reporting a lost item for someone else please use their name and contact information if possible. Lost items with names associated with them such as wallets, purses, identification badges, credit cards or bags with name tags can be matched by name as well as physical descriptions. If the Lost Item Report has a third person's name and not the name associated with the lost item it will be difficult to match the item with the rightful owner.

Color

If the item is multi-colored, select the primary or dominant color and provide additional detail on the color scheme in the comments section. The Lost and Found Web form only accepts a single color for each item.

Reporting multiple items

  • If you lost multiple items that are not physically connected, you must complete a separate form for each item.
  • If you lost an umbrella and a briefcase, they would be reported on two separate Lost Item Reports.

Do not submit multiple Lost and Found Reports for the same item

This will not increase your chances of recovering the item. In some cases it will impede the process by requiring manual intervention by Lost and Found personnel.
