New York Avenue Station Celebrating Our Communities, 2002
Students of The Perry School Community Center
Painted mural
Celebrating Our Communities, by students of The Perry School Summer Art Program, is located at the construction site of the future New York Avenue station on the Red Line in the District of Columbia. The painted mural portrays everyday life in communities along New York Avenue through the eyes of area youth. The 36 panels that make up the mural flank Florida Avenue on the north side of the construction site. The students created the mural under the instruction of Washington, D.C. artist, Stanley Squirewell. The panels will be donated to community organizations for permanent display after New York Avenue station opens in 2004. The project was funded in part by the United Planning Organization.
