Media Guidelines

Welcome to Metro!

Representatives from the Media Relations Office, 202-962-1051, assist the media by providing information about the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) and the operations of Metrorail and Metrobus. As we work with you, we make every effort to work within your deadlines.

Interviews
All requests for interviews with Metro employees should be made to the Media Relations Office, 202-962-1051. We will try to provide a representative who can best address the topic of the interview.

While on Metro Property
If you want to film, photograph or interview customers on Metro property, please make your request through the Media Relations Office, 202-962-1051.

When filming (live or taped), taking a still photograph or conducting interviews while on Metro property, please allow our customers to enter/leave rail cars, buses, escalators and elevators without obstruction. Please do not block or restrict the movement of Metrorail and/or Metrobus customers.

When filming inside Metrorail stations, please do so only with hand-held cameras. No tripods are permitted as they block the movement of customers on platforms and inside the station mezzanine areas and present a safety hazard.

Serious and Police Incidents
It is our policy to share information on serious incidents with the media as soon as possible. We also are eager to provide you with updates as more information on serious incidents becomes available to us.

In the event of a serious rail or bus incident or a police incident, you can reach us by pager during weekends and evenings or at the office during business hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To request our pager number, please call the office during regular business hours at 202-962-1051.

Public Meetings
We welcome you to observe meetings of our Board of Directors and committee meetings that are open to the public. You may film and/or record these meetings. We will gladly assist you with placement of cameras and microphones as needed.

Public meetings are listed on our Media Relations Update Phone Line at 202-962-1055 where you can listen to a recorded message about upcoming board meetings, details about board meeting agendas and a list of upcoming public meetings.
