- When using Metro, customers may carry ordinary hand baggage, instrument cases, tool cases, folded baby carriages, wheelchairs, bundles, or packages as long as they can be handled without any inconvenience to other customers. Customers may not bring any signs or placards -- more than 18" by 18" or affixed to a pole -- into the Metro system.
- It is illegal to carry any flammable or combustible liquids, explosives, or any other dangerous items anywhere in the Metro system.
- Patrons may participate in free speech activities, but out of respect for other customers, patrons may not post commercial signs, advertisements, circulars, or printed material on any part of a WMATA structure. Persons may not set up tables or other portable equipment, or solicit or collect funds on Metro property.
- For added convenience, customers are reminded to purchase round trip farecards when they first enter the Metrorail system.
In addition, customers are encouraged to exercise care when using Metrobus or Metrorail. Riders are especially reminded to be careful with children when entering and exiting rail stations, escalators, trains, and Metrobuses.
If traveling with children in strollers, passengers are strongly advised
to use elevators. Regular customers are also reminded to extend courtesy
and patience to those who are first time users of Metro.
